Oktoberfest Tandem Weekend - Fredericksburg, TX

The Southwest Tandem Rally has been canceled for the last two years due to restrictions caused by the worldwide Covid 19 pandemic.  Recent data for Gillespie County indicate a positivity rate under 2% and no Covid patients in the hospital.  While this is good news, it doesn’t mean the pandemic is over.  Our mass vaccination site has to date administered more than 13,000 doses of vaccine and add approximately another 1200 every week.  So, with that in mind and a very positive response to my original enquiry for interest in a rally in October, we are happy to announce that we will host a Tandem Weekend in Fredericksburg October 1, 2, & 3.  This is a NO COST / NO FRILLS weekend of cycling with friends in the Texas Hill Country.  This weekend coincides with the annual Oktoberfest festival.  There is always a chance that the festival could be cancelled but at this time the planning for Oktoberfest is moving ahead at full throttle.  Typically, this weekend is one of the most popular in Fredericksburg and accommodations are fully booked.  If you think you want to attend the rally, we highly recommend that you book a room, B&B or RV spot now.

What will the rally be like?  We will provide routes in an event format on Ride with GPS.  We will suggest routes for each day of the rally, but you will have the option to choose your own route and you own start time.  Each day at least one route will include a restaurant for a lunch break.  There will be routes that include wineries and places to picnic.  We are planning for two optional afternoon Social Hours: one at the Slate Mill Winery and the other at a Pavilion at Lady Bird Johnson park.  There will be plenty of open time to attend Oktoberfest and enjoy the music and German food and beer.

Please let me know if you are planning to attend; I need an approximate number of attendees to submit a Health and Safety Plan to the City.

This event is open to anyone who wants to cycle in the Hill Country, both Tandem and Half Bikes.  I have only a limited email list so please feel free to forward this email to anyone you think might be interested.
